The concepts of identity, body image and character seem to come down to only two factors: culture and social environment. There are so many areas in the world that define basic social concepts in a variety of ways. We are what we do, and cultural ideas, social practices, and structured institutions that give those everyday actions meaning shape what we do.

Beauty can be stressful in a woman’s life. We are fed information about this “ideal beauty” that women strive for. But what is this ideal beauty people seem to be talking about? The standard of beauty changes constantly and society only has a small amount of time to catch up with these changes. Beauty is in the same category as consumerism.

“I have a friend who says, ‘Linda can’t know anything without teaching it to somebody else.’”. For the last 20 years, Linda Loomis has instilled her knowledge of creative writing, journalism, and English into students’ minds at SUNY Oswego. Loomis was supposed to retire in 2008, yet her effort, determination, and hard work has not only continued to contribute to students overall knowledge in writing, but the quality of SUNY Oswego’s teaching as a whole.

Lawmakers approved Oswego’s 2014 budget last December increasing the property tax for the city. Despite its approval, it will not affect students who presently reside off campus as leases are signed in June for the year. The tax increase is not expected to impact commuter students until 2015, when they might be inclined to pay a higher price for rent.

On the night of March 6, something had gone viral all over Facebook and Twitter. People were asking, “What is Kony2012?”. After watching a twenty-seven minute video, young adults across the nation became aware of the happenings in Uganda. There is an organization called Invisible Children who are trying to stop this war and the rebel group called the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), lead by Joseph Kony.
